Republican lawmakers, FBI director sound alarm over CCP Gotion

Despite the clarion calls that proposed Chinese electric battery plants in the U.S. are likely to spy on U.S. government and military targets, some Democrats continue to defend their government handouts to such companies as Gotion, Inc., and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co.

Concerns have grown over the past few months over the proposed Gotion plant, In November, all five members of the Green Township Board were recalled and two others resigned. Additionally, the supervisor of neighboring Big Rapids Township was recalled. All had approved a massive 30-year tax abatement.

Michigan’s Democratic trifecta in Lansing, however, approved a $715 million incentive package for the Gotion plant. Among the Democratic Senators voting for the Gotion incentives was former Sen. Curtis Hertel who is currently running for the 7th Michigan District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Perhaps more interesting about Hertel than other Democratic lawmakers who voted for the Gotion incentives is that he and a staffer signed nondisclosure agreements with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which related to MEDC funding of the Gotion project dubbed Project Elephant.

Hertel did not respond to The Midwesterner’s request for comments.

A Foreign Agents Registration Act filed on Gotion’s behalf by Grand Rapids law firm Warner Norcross & Judd, revealed Hertel held conversations with the firm, which was seeking to: “Gather background on concerns raised during Senate Appropriations hearing.” Hertel, at the time, was a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The law firm has contributed $2,400 to campaign committees supporting Hertel, and individual attorneys at Warner Norcross & Judd also made donations to his Congressional campaign.

Former CIA Director and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told lawmakers that the proposed Gotion plant in Michigan could be used for Chinese espionage. 

Curtis Hertel is responsible for approving a $175 million taxpayer incentive to Gotion and taking money from the employer of foreign agents representing Gotion.

Why is Curtis Hertel still silent on his involvement?

Curtis Hertel was on stage at a Veterans Day event wearing a military-issued Army uniform despite having never served in the military. Now, Michigan veterans are rightfully calling for his apology.

However, there’s been notable silence from her extreme Democrat companions Hillary Scholten, Curtis Hertel and Dan Kildee.

Crooked Curtis proves yet again that he’s only running for Congress to enrich himself. 

According to reporting from The Detroit News, Curtis Hertel went from negotiating the state’s $82 billion budget to working for a Flint-based nonprofit that’s benefitting from money provided through that legislation. A blatant pay to play.

Since extreme Democrat Rashida Tlaib released her disgraceful statement siding with the terrorist organization Hamas, Michigan Democrats Hillary Scholten, Dan Kildee and Curtis Hertel have been silent in whether they support or condemn her remarks.

Even President Biden’s own Ambassador to Israel felt it necessary to call out Tlaib for her absurd statement:

“Hillary Scholten, Dan Kildee and Curtis Hertel put on the façade that they support Israel, yet they can’t even stand up to extremism and antisemitism within their own party. Tlaib’s statement is disgusting and should be forcefully condemned by every freedom-loving American.” – NRCC Spokesman Mike Marinella

Today, extreme Democrat Rashida Tlaib released a disgraceful statement siding with the terrorist organization Hamas, whose attacks have killed at least 600 Israelis and prompted Israel to officially declare war for the first time since 1973.

Hakeem Jeffries, the House Democrats’ Antisemite sympathizer, has refused to condemn or agree with her statement.

This begs the question: Will the rest of Tlaib’s radical Democrat colleagues in Michigan, such as Hillary Scholten, Elissa Slotkin, and Dan Kildee, condemn or agree with victim-blaming Israel for the horrendous attacks from Hamas?
