Grace Meng (NY-06) and Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13)—along with House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar released the following joint statement on Rep. Nancy Mace’s resolution that would effectively abolish the Congressional Tri-Caucus, among other groups:

“Nancy Mace rose to infamy for her cheap political stunts, and this is just the latest distraction from her failed primary and complete inability to deliver for her constituents. Members of Congress have every right to organize around shared policy priorities and the constituencies they serve. There are dozens of bipartisan congressional caucuses dedicated to ethnic communities, geographic regions, industries, veterans, faith traditions and countless other interests. Singling out the Congressional Tri-Caucus—which represents nearly half of all Americans—is racist and a shameless attempt to silence the voices of minorities.

“The Tri-Caucus does not need a lecture about what constitutes federally sanctioned segregation—least of all from a member who has repeatedly made racist and bigoted comments about minority communities over the course of her tenure in Congress.

“The Congressional Tri-Caucus was formed to address the needs and concerns of Asian, Black, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander American communities that are too often ignored in the halls of power. These caucuses existed long before Nancy Mace arrived in Congress, and will remain long after she fades into irrelevancy.”

Republican Governors Sign President Trump’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge

The pledge reads in part: 

“America’s continued economic and technological leadership depends on reliable, large-scale data center infrastructure built here at home. Data center infrastructure is the foundation of the Internet, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, and supports our economic and national security. As that infrastructure grows and the related electricity demand increases, the American people should not be footing the bill for the benefit of private companies. Instead, the data center boom should be leveraged to address affordability and benefit all American households and businesses.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, Vice Chair Ted Lieu and House Budget Committee Ranking Member Brendan Boyle held a press conference calling out Republicans’ budget bill for bankrolling Trump’s reckless war with Iran and failing to lower costs for working families. CHAIRMAN AGUILAR: Good morning. We’ve got a busy week ahead. But of course, of all the things that Republican leadership is trying to jam before the August recess, not one will address the actual affordability crisis that American families are facing. Republicans are putting forward a nearly $100 billion budget bill. But get this: not a single dollar, not one, will go toward lowering the costs that people face. Instead, Republicans plan to spend tens of billions of dollars on Trump’s failed war in Iran, which has cost three more American servicemembers’ lives over the weekend and has set gas prices soaring yet again. Think about what we could spend with these resources instead. For what Republicans plan to spend on the war, we could fully fund a three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits and lower insurance premiums for millions. But Republicans are choosing a war over healthcare for the American people. At the same time, Republicans are also tying their voter suppression legislation to this bill in order to rig elections in their favor. This self-dealing and corruption is not what the American people voted for.

Americans elected Donald Trump and Republicans because they were promised lower prices and a better quality of life. But Trump has broken every single promise to lower costs on day one. While Americans are getting squeezed at the grocery store, the gas station and at the pharmacy, we’re watching in real time Donald Trump profit off of the presidency and waste their hard-earned tax dollars on a war that they didn’t want. It’s no wonder that poll numbers have him tanking. Nearly 70 percent of Americans disapprove of his handling of inflation and the cost of living crisis. Well, November is right around the corner. And while Trump might not be on the ballot, Republicans who are greenlighting this agenda are: Mike Lawler, Derrick Van Orden, David Valadao and Jen Kiggans. These are the members who will have to answer to their constituents on who they are putting first. Democrats won’t stand by while Trump and Republicans waste American tax dollars, and we’re going to continue to tackle the affordable kitchen table issues that Americans are facing. Vice Chair Ted Lieu.

VICE CHAIR LIEU: Thank you, Chairman Aguilar. Private Isabella Gonzales, age 19. First Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, age 25. And Sergeant Michael Emmanuel Swinton, age 30. Those three service members recently died in the unconstitutional war in Iran. Now, at least 17 U.S. servicemembers have died in this unconstitutional war. And why did they die? They didn’t have to die. They died because Donald Trump and his Rubber Stamp Republicans entered a war of choice with no strategy, a lack of defensive munitions and a lack of planning. U.S. troops are now stationed at multiple bases that Iranian missile and drone strikes have hit. Because of the lack of planning and the inability to defend these bases, the sons and daughters of Americans are now exposed to Iranian strikes.

And what are Donald Trump and Republicans focused on? Putting Trump’s face on the $1 coin, putting Trump’s face on a $250 bill, putting Trump’s face on giant banners all across Washington, D.C., putting Trump’s name on airports, putting Trump’s name on federal buildings. Shame on Donald Trump for the callousness towards the lives of our American troops. And what is the Republican response this week? To give a blank check to the administration to continue funding this illegal war. This war has also resulted now in gas prices rising to over $4 nationwide on average, for price inflation, for the cost of goods going up. We call on Senate Republicans to pass the War Powers Resolution that the House passed and get it to the President’s desk. With that, I’m so honored to introduce my friend and colleague Brendan Boyle, the Ranking Member of the Budget Committee.

RANKING MEMBER BOYLE: Thank you. It was just a couple of years ago in 2024 that Donald Trump campaigned throughout my state, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and indeed all of the battleground states, and his biggest single promise was when he said, and I quote him: ‘I will lower costs on day one.’ Well, here we are 18 months later, and he has completely failed to keep that promise. Gas prices higher, food prices higher, inflation across the board, higher and going higher still. Why? Directly because of Donald Trump’s policies and the Rubber Stamp Republicans who approve them. It started a year ago in what they promised would be a Big Beautiful Bill, but became a Big Ugly Law for the American people, ripping away healthcare from more than 15 million Americans in order to fund tax cuts, mostly for the wealthy and well-connected.

They are now doubling down on that one year later through their so-called Reconciliation 3.0 bill, which passed the Budget Committee last week and will be on the House floor this week. Now, their bill, mind you, is $95 billion. Most of that money is going toward funding this reckless Iran gamble that Donald Trump has gotten us into, with no plan on how to get us out of it. Most of the $95 billion goes toward that. With, by the way, no offsets whatsoever. So the crowd that always likes to cry crocodile tears about deficit and debt, the same crowd that added more than $4 trillion to our national debt through the bill a year ago, now is adding $95 billion more in deficit and debt. If you take the entirety of all of the bills that they have pushed over the last 18 months and signed into law, in addition to this one, $5 trillion added to our national debt. More than any other Congress in such a short period in American history. Now, you might be thinking, well, given that affordability or the lack thereof, is still by far the number one issue on voters’ minds, surely there is something in the Republican Reconciliation 3.0 to bring down costs, to bring down food prices, to bring down gas prices. We searched through it, 47 pages, 6,560 words. Not one word about affordability. Not one initiative, not one, to bring down costs for the American people. We have a President and a Republican majority that just doesn’t care about the increased costs the American people are having to pay. The American people deeply reject this agenda by more than a 2-to-1 margin. They are right. We will be proud to vote against this. Thank you.

CHAIRMAN AGUILAR: Thank you so much, Sylvia. I want to thank Sylvia and our members here, our caucus chairs, Congresswoman Salazar and our advocates for leading the charge on this important bipartisan piece of legislation to promote a legal pathway for people who have been working and contributing in this country for years. I want to thank Senator Durbin for his 25 years of unwavering support for Dreamers.

When this program was created 14 years ago, DACA gave young people who were brought to this country an opportunity to live, work and build a life here in the United States without fear. For so many Dreamers, the United States is the only country that they have ever called home and they are giving back in countless ways. Doctors, teachers, nurses, military servicemembers, small business owners. They pay taxes, they contribute to our economy and they keep society going. And this isn’t just about Dreamers though. This is about TPS holders. This is about Deferred Enforced Departure recipients, people who fled dangerous circumstances, to build better lives here.

Since coming to Congress more than a decade ago, I’ve worked to secure opportunities for these families. But unfortunately, in that time, Congress has failed to act, leaving their status in limbo year after year. That’s why the Dream and Promise Act is essential. It’s about doing right by people who have given everything to build a better life here for them and their families. And despite the polarization in Congress, this is actually an issue that has transcended party and actually united Democrats and some Republicans. Because in each corner of the country, every district, every town, every community, our neighbors, our friends, our classmates’ futures depend on this bill passing. And at a time when immigrant communities are being relentlessly targeted by this administration, and most recently by the Supreme Court decision impacting TPS holders, we need to provide them with stability. As leaders in Congress, it’s on us to deliver for the people we represent in our districts. Let’s do the right thing and let’s get this bill across the finish line.

House Republicans Pass FY 2027 National Security Funding Bill to Put America First

The following text contains opinion that is not, or not necessarily, that of MIL-OSI – WASHINGTON— Today, House Republicans passed H.R. 8595, the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2027, which reduces spending by $2.69 billion from the Fiscal Year 2026 enacted level.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Diaz-Balart released the following statements:

“America became the strongest, safest, and most prosperous nation in the world because we put America first,” Chairwoman McClain said. “For too long, taxpayers were forced to bankroll hostile regimes, broken international organizations, and radical programs that made our country weaker. House Republicans are restoring strength and making every dollar serve a clear national purpose.”

“This Republican majority has delivered another critical piece of legislation to strengthen our national security while reducing spending,” Rep. Diaz-Balart said. “The ever-increasing national debt is the greatest long-term threat to our country’s stability and security, and this bill makes disciplined decisions to continue reining in spending while responsibly maintaining our national security priorities. All this while countering anti-American adversaries and ensuring full accountability and transparency of international organizations that have lost sight of their mission.”

The bill cuts $1.8 billion from United Nations and international peacekeeping contributions. It blocks funding for UNRWA, the World Health Organization, the International Criminal Court, and the International Court of Justice. It also withholds most assistance to Mexico until the country complies with its obligations under the 1944 Water Treaty. Funding for fentanyl and illicit drug interdiction remains available.

H.R. 8595 preserves longstanding pro-life protections and ends taxpayer support for radical gender ideologies, DEI programs, and climate mandates abroad. It protects free speech, supports religious freedom, and requires only the American flag and other official flags to fly over U.S. embassies and consulates.

Under the House rule, the text of the House-passed SAVE America Act will be added to H.R. 8595 before the legislation is transmitted to the Senate. The SAVE America Act requires proof of U.S. citizenship to register for federal elections and photo identification when casting a ballot.

In this last election, Americans entrusted Republicans with their votes because they believed that they would lower their costs. But for the last 18 months, we have seen that Republicans consistently put billionaires’ interests over the needs of hardworking Americans. Nowhere was that more evident than in their signature bill, the Big Ugly Law. The GOP handed tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy while ripping away benefits, healthcare and food assistance from the people that need it most. This is not what the American people voted for, and now, one year later, families are experiencing that fallout.

Working families can’t afford to see a doctor when they’re sick or to feed their kids when they’re hungry. Hospitals, nursing homes and clinics are closing their doors. And eight million people have lost healthcare. Republicans used all of the power that they had to reward the billionaires while their constituents went broke.

House Republicans are so corrupt and so beholden to Trump and the elites, that they’ve ignored every chance to undo this damage. Instead of restoring healthcare, they’ve given a blank check to ICE to terrorize our communities. And instead of lowering costs, they’ve made life harder and more expensive for everyone. Meanwhile, House Democrats have worked to ensure families have the tools and resources they need to succeed. The affordable healthcare crisis is upon us and Democrats will do everything we can to make delivering on healthcare the heart of our mission. We’re going to keep fighting to lower costs, fix the healthcare crisis and stop Trump and Republicans from wasting taxpayer dollars.

Chairwoman McClain Warns Against the Growing Influence of Communism in American Politics

Remarks as prepared for delivery:

Good morning.

Before we begin, I want to take a moment to honor the life and legacy of Senator Lindsey Graham.

Senator Graham was a stalwart defender of conservative values, a staunch ally of President Trump, and a devoted public servant who spent decades fighting for the country he loved.

His sudden passing is a tremendous loss—not only for South Carolina and the Republican Party, but for our entire nation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends, his staff, and all those who knew and loved him.

Senator Graham understood that freedom is never guaranteed. It must be defended—at home and around the world—from those who seek to destroy it.

And for most of our history, Americans could agree on one basic principle: Communism is evil. It crushes freedom. It destroys prosperity. And it gives enormous power to a small oligarchy who believe they know how everyone else should live.

We didn’t agree on everything, but we understood that communism is the enemy of everything America was built to be. Sadly, not anymore.

Today, communists aren’t hiding in the shadows. And they are preparing to bring their ideology into the United States Congress.

Our guest today, Congressman Carlos Gimenez, knows exactly where that ideology leads. His family fled communist Cuba in search of freedom here in America—and in a moment, you’ll hear directly from him.

When people who have lived under communism warn us about what is happening, we should listen.

Because this is not just one radical voice on the fringe. Not just two. Double digits.

Actual communists serving in the Congress of the United States of America. That should horrify everyone.

Because communism is not some fashionable theory dreamed up in a college classroom. It’s already been tried—and we know exactly where it leads.

Bread lines in the Soviet Union. Political prisons in Cuba. Children starving in Venezuela. Different countries. Different decades. The same results.

Communism has failed everywhere it has been tried. It has destroyed every nation unfortunate enough to fall under its control.

Remember when the Berlin Wall fell? Everyone ran to the American side, NOT the communist Russia side.

But the Left keeps insisting that this time will somehow be different. It will not.

The slogans may change, but the consequences never do. And that’s not some distant warning about what could happen years from now. It is happening in real time.

Under communist Mamdani, New York City rents have reached an all-time high. The median asking rent is now almost $5,300 a month in Manhattan—and over $4,300 in Brooklyn. Those are the real-life consequences of the communist experiment.

Working families are paying the price right now.

If you despise the country, you do not deserve to lead it. And if your goal is to tear down everything our Founders built, Republicans will stand in your way every single time.

This is no longer a debate between slightly different economic policies.

This is a choice between freedom and tyrannical government control.

Between the American Dream and the failed nightmare of communism.

Between people who believe America is worth defending—and radicals who seem embarrassed that America exists at all.

These people hate our country and everything it stands for.

Well, I’ve got great news: You’re free to go! You don’t have to be here!

Our Founders gave us a nation built on individual liberty, self-government, faith, free enterprise, and the understanding that our rights come from God.

The communist Left wants to replace that with dependency, coercion, censorship, and oppressive government control over nearly every part of American life.

We won’t let them. We will defend this country.

And we will make certain that communism never takes root in the United States of America.

Now it’s my pleasure to hand it over to a man who knows all too well the consequences of communism, Congressman Carlos Gimenez from Florida.
