IAM Local 1998 in Honolulu honored the late IAM Western Territory Grand Lodge Representative Maria Santiago Lillis on Maria Santiago Lillis Advocacy Day – A Commitment to Serve (ACTS) by filling 296 orders for the Community Pantry food bank in Hawaii, providing over 20,000 pounds of food to feed more than 700 families.
“It’s unfortunate that in one of the richest societies we live that people go hungry, if not for food pantries people would starve,” said Gary R. Allen, IAM Western Territory General Vice President. “It’s these types of community service that reflects Sister Maria Lillis and the IAM values, lending a helping hand for the less fortunate in our society.”
The late Maria Santiago Lillis, IAM Western Territory Grand Lodge Representative, was a passionate mentor and advocate for workers and human rights as well as social justice. The Executive Council has created ACTS to honor her legacy and encourage all representatives to follow her example.
